[Food Review] Ah Bong's Italian (Tiong Bahru) Pasta delights

by - Sunday, February 15, 2015

Ah Bong's Italian. Now what does this name sound to you? Pretty fusion right? A local Singaporean flavor infused with an Italian essence? Perhaps that's what owner Ah Bong sets out to create with his homely, delicious pasta when he decides to set up his humble store right in the coffeeshop along Eng Hoon Street ( enter from Link Hotel on the main street, right across from the Monkey God Temple).

This coffeeshop houses a famous Yong Tau Foo Store, Fishball noodle shop and Ah Bong's Italian was a recent add-on from last year.
A pleasant surprise nevertheless if you are craving some western delights.

Ah Bong's Birthday Pasta $6, was my first trial at their pasta and I was blown away by this very delectable combination. Surprisingly light and crunchy with the mashed up broccoli, creamy sauce and bacon I was a happy girl after tucking in. This was a special birthday creation for Chris's (owner) daughter that week and hence the name. An amazing pasta and a good way to introduce veggies to children!
In case you are wondering, Ah Bong is the nickname for his daughter.

I hope the pasta comes back some day as a permanent stay on the menu. After so long since I had this pasta ( last year to be exact) I still remember its light refreshing taste. LOVE.

Handwritten menu board epresses Chris's desire to add on a personal touch.

Mac and Cheese $5 ( in bowl)
Simple comfort filled with mac, creamy cheese, bacon, oven baked.
This is an all time for everyone. Very pleasing.

With their traditional roster plating, this calls for some nostalgic dining experience with a western flare.

Excellent customer service, they thrive on making a personalized dining experience by chatting with their customers and asking for feedbacks. I was observing and they do chat up to everyone who had ordered. Such recommendable effort even some 9 months down the road on my 2nd visit. A very sincere way of thanking their customers and bringing the human touch.

In this time and age, such interactions had already diminished in the food industry and I am glad the staff ( Chris and his helpers) of Ah Bong are keeping up with it so well. Ever so humble, genuine and welcoming.

Goes to show you don't have to hefty price for excellent pasta! Hop on by as their menu changes every now and then. Be delighted by the surprising flavors.
